Show Description
The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. This season join the family Von Trapp in the true-life telling of one of history’s most thrilling and inspirational stories. Featuring the Tony, Grammy and Academy Award-winning Best Score, including “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and the title song.
Audition Requirements
ADULT Audition Dates (Ages 16+)

YOUTH Audition Dates (Playing age 6 to 16):
Sunday, May 28 at 1:30 PM
Please be prepared to:
– Sing 16-20 bars of a classical musical theatre song of your choice.
You must sing with our provided accompaniment or with a device you provide. No a cappella auditions will be allowed.
– Complete a dance audition, taught by the show choreographer (dress appropriately)
– Read from a provided monologue/dialogue from script
– Be prepared to fill out a conflict sheet at auditions (be as specific as possible about conflicts throughout the rehearsal period)

Rehearsals will begin end of May/beginning of June. Tech week will be from Saturday, July 15 through Thursday, July 20, 2023. No absences will be accepted during tech week or performances.

Please make sure you can fully commit to the rehearsal period and performance schedule before auditioning. You must be willing to make the show a priority.
Performers Needed
Performers of playing ages 6 to 16 are welcome to audition for the von Trapp children, and performers 16 and up are welcome to audition for all other roles. Experienced or first-time performers who enjoy singing, dancing, and acting are invited to audition. Unless strictly and specifically mandated from the playwright, all roles are open and available to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, or body type.
ADULT Roles Available (all ages listed are suggested playing ages and will be adjusted to fit the needs of our casting):
Maria Rainer: (musical theatre mix/soprano, 20-35) A postulant at Nonnberg Abbey – young, free spirited, warm, gentle, and kind with much determination.
Captain Georg von Trapp: (baritone, 35-45) A retired Austrian naval captain. Polished, yet very military in the way he runs his life to repress his sadness over the death of his wife; underneath, he is warm, understanding, and determined.
Max Detweiller: (tenor/baritone, 30+) Charming and vital; a man of sophistication who enjoys the good life; true and loyal friend to the von Trapp family.
Elsa Schrader: (mezzo soprano, 35-45) A baroness of taste and elegance, sophisticated, dignified, and mature.
Mother Abbess: (legit soprano, wide vocal range, 40+) Motherly, understanding, strong, and authoritative, but kind.
Sister Berthe: (alto) Mistress of Novices, prudish, straight laced with a quick tongue, she is less tolerant than other nuns.
Sister Margaretta: (mezzo) Mistress of Postulants, very kind, understanding, and concerned.
Sister Sophia: (soprano) Neither demanding nor critical, sticks with the rules.
Franz: (30+) The von Trapp butler, rather formal but not without spirit, he is very German and loyal to the Fascist cause.
Frau Schmidt: (30+) The housekeeper, stoic, very little personality; she does her job efficiently but without affection. Strong and somewhat dominating.
Herr Zeller: (40+) Stern and unsmiling, a typical Nazi official whose primary concern is to see that everyone toes the line.
Ursula: (20+) A maid of the von Trapps.
Baron Elberfeld: (40+) Austrian who is aghast of what he sees as the German invasion
Baroness Elberfeld: (40+) The Baron’s wife
Frau Ullrich (30+): Dinner companion of Herr Zeller
Admiral von Schrieber: (40+) Admiral of the German Navy. Has a mission, and is there to do it, but not as stern as Herr Zeller.
Rolf Gruber: (low tenor, 17) Suitor to Liesl, telegram delivery boy, later Nazi soldier. A very pleasant young man, somewhat aggressive but in a gentle way.

CHILD Roles Available
Liesl von Trapp (mezzo, dance, 16) The oldest child, blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings.
Friedrich von Trapp (age 14) Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the man” of the family.
Louisa von Trapp (age 13) Rebellious attitude.
Kurt von Trapp (age 10, falsetto) Gentle and mischievous.
Brigitta von Trapp (age 9) Smart, reads a lot.
Marta von Trapp (age 7) Very sweet and gentle.
Gretl von Trapp (age 6) Must have the cute factor.
