Keystone Theatrics at The Playhouse at Allenberry is now accepting submissions for Million Dollar Quartet!

 

Show Description
Get ready to rock and roll all night long with MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET! When an extraordinary twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley together at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever. Featuring all the classic hits from the era, as well as some surprises along the way, this show will have you dancing in your seat and singing along to every tune.

Submission Requirements – DUE BY MONDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2024
We are now accepting submissions for our virtual ‘pre-screening’ process. Interested applicants should submit the following to casting@keystonetheatrics.com:

  • a headshot and resume
  • a video audition consisting of the song choices in the Roles Available section below
  • any applicable band reels or other promotional material, if available
  • in your email, please include which role(s) you are interested in and would accept

Rehearsals and Performances
Rehearsals will begin on Monday, January 20, 2025.  Rehearsals will be as follows:

Monday, January 20 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Tuesday, January 21 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Wednesday, January 22 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Thursday, January 23 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Saturday, January 25 from 10 AM to 2 PM
Monday, January 27 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Tuesday, January 28 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Wednesday, January 29 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Thursday, January 30 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM

Tech week will be from Saturday, February 1 through Thursday, February 6, 2025.

Performances
February 7, 8, 14, 15, 2025 at 7:30 PM
February 9, 15, 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM

*We also ask that you are available the following weekend, February 21, 22, 23 in case weather makeup performances are required.*

Please make sure you can fully commit to the rehearsal period and performance schedule before sending in a submission. Given the very short rehearsal period, we are asking for no conflicts during that time.

Compensation
*Please note that productions are non-equity and no housing is provided or available.*

– $100 per week Rehearsal Stipend (some roles may not be called until the second week of rehearsal)
– $50 per completed performance, paid when all services under contract are fully completed.

Performers Needed
Performers and musicians aged 18 and up are welcome to send in submissions for any roles. Unless strictly and specifically mandated from the playwright, all roles are open and available to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, or body type.

Roles Available (Ages are suggested playing ages only)

Elvis Presley: (20s-30s, Male-Identifying) singer/guitar player. Elvis in his 20s at the beginning of his career. In the production, Elvis sings: “Memories Are Made Of This,” “That’s All Right,” “Long Tall Sally,” “Party,” and “Hound Dog.” Must be familiar with his music; should sound and look somewhat like Elvis without being an “impersonator.” To submit, please send a video of you accompanying yourself on guitar to “That’s Alright, Mama” or any other Elvis song of your choosing.

Jerry Lee Lewis: (20s-30s, Male-Identifying) singer/pianist. Jerry Lee Lewis was rock & roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated “Last Man Standing.” Fun, energetic. In the production, Jerry Lee Lewis sings: “Real Wild Child,” “Great Balls Of Fire,” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.” Actors with comedic skills who are superb piano players and able to play like Jerry Lee Lewis are encouraged to submit. To submit, please send a video of you accompanying yourself on piano to “Great Balls Of Fire” or “Whole Lotta Shakin.”

Carl Perkins: (mid 20s-late 30s, Male-Identifying) singer/guitar player (lead guitar). Carl Perkins was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song “Blue Suede Shoes.” In the production, Carl Perkins sings “Matchbox,” “Who Do You Love?,” “My Babe,” and “See You Later, Alligator.” Actors who are excellent lead guitarists are encouraged to submit. To submit, please submit video of you accompanying yourself on guitar to “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Matchbox,” or a rockabilly tune of your choosing. Please make sure to include solos as part of accompanying yourself.

Johnny Cash: (Late 20s-40s, Male-Identifying) singer/guitar player. This is Johnny Cash at the dawn of his epic career. Tall. In the production, Johnny Cash sings “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Sixteen Tons,” “I Walk The Line,” and “Riders In The Sky.” Must be familiar with his music. Actors should sound and look somewhat like Johnny without being an “impersonator.” To submit, please send a video of you accompanying yourself on guitar to “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk The Line,” or any other Cash song of your choosing.

Sam Phillips: (Mid-30s-40s, Male-Identifying, Non-Singing Role) The “Father of Rock’n’roll” and founder of Sun Records who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King. A towering and charismatic figure in American music. To submit, please send video audition of Sam Phillips monologue, which we will supply. NON-SINGING ROLE.

Dyanne: (20s-early 40s, Female-Identifying). Excellent singer. Dyanne was an aspiring singer and Elvis’s girlfriend. Ahead of her time and assertive, she’s a great singer with a wide range. Dyanne sings solos and back-up throughout the show, sings “Fever” in her alto range, and covers the high soprano part of “Riders In The Sky” (Johnny Cash song). Dyanne also sings “I Hear You Knockin’.” To submit, please send a 32-bar cutting of two songs from the era. All submissions should have accompaniment.

Jay Perkins: (20-40s, Male-Identifying) Jay is Carl Perkins’ brother and bassist, who has accompanied him to Sun Records to record Carl’s new album. He is loyal to Carl but also not interested (or willing) to get caught up in the politics of the record business. He remains almost entirely silent in conversation, but performs as part of the ensemble numbers, and plays bass on all the musicians’ songs. He is enthusiastic about music and performing, and often will do tricks with his bass, including spinning or flipping the instrument or dancing with it. He is an extremely skilled bass player and performer, able to play at strange angles with other musicians leaning on, or even standing on, his bass. To submit, please send a video highlighting your bass skills and tricks.

W. S. “Fluke” Holland: (20-40s, Male-Identifying) mid 20s; onstage drummer. Fluke is Carl Perkins’ drummer, who has accompanied him to Sun Records to record Carl’s new album. He is loyal to Carl but also not interested (or willing) to get caught up in the politics of the record business. He has a few lines and performs as part of the ensemble numbers and plays drums on all the musicians’ songs. To submit, please send a video of your drumming skills to a song from the era.
