 Keystone Theatrics is holding auditions for its holiday production of Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Musical Radio Play, directed by Suzanne Delle.

Step back into a 1940s radio studio as this beloved holiday story comes to life through acting, music, vintage commercials, and the theatrical magic of live radio. We’re looking for performers ready to embrace the wit, warmth, heightened style, and ensemble spirit of a classic radio broadcast.

Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 4:00 PM

Location: Auditions will be held at 309 3rd Street Suite B, New Cumberland, PA 17070

What to Prepare:

Please prepare both a song and a short monologue:

  • 16 bars of a song
    Choose either a Christmas song or a song in a 1940s big-band/swing style that best showcases your voice and personality. Please bring clearly marked sheet music for the accompanist or your own device if you are using a track
  • 30 seconds of a monologue
    We’re looking for the wit, sophistication, rhythm, and vocal energy of classic Hollywood. Prepare approximately 30 seconds of a monologue in the style of Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, or Humphrey Bogart. You do not need to impersonate these actors. Instead, think about the energy of classic Hollywood and radio: clear diction, confident choices, heightened personality, comic timing, and a willingness to play.

Need inspiration? Consider a short speech from Samuel Taylor’s Sabrina Fair or Philip Barry’s The Philadelphia Story:

Virtual Submissions

If you absolutely are unable to attend in person auditions, a video submission option is available. Full details and requirements are posted here. Submissions are due no later than Sunday, September 13 at 4:00 PM.

Core Radio Troupe & Main Characters:

  • Kris Kringle — The warm, jolly gentleman who claims to be the one and only Santa Claus. Age 50+. Non-singing role.
  • Susan Walker — A pragmatic young girl raised not to believe in fairy tales, or Santa Claus, who begins to reconsider what might be possible. Actor Age 12+. Vocal range: C4–C5. Role may be double cast.
  • Doris Walker — Susan’s practical, no-nonsense mother who works for Macy’s. Her certainty begins to shift as Kris enters their lives. Late 20s–40s. Alto/Mezzo-Soprano, C4–C#5.
  • Fred Gailey — Doris and Susan’s kind-hearted neighbor and an attorney who takes on the seemingly impossible task of proving that Kris really is Santa Claus. Baritone/Tenor, Bb3–G4.
  • Radio Announcer / Music Director — Our guide through the live radio broadcast, helping set the period atmosphere and leading the audience through the story, music, and vintage commercials. Bass/Baritone, F2–F4.
  • Radio Troupe / Ensemble — Versatile performers who bring the bustling world of Miracle on 34th Street to life through multiple featured and supporting characters, commercials, music, and the theatrical fun of a live 1940s radio broadcast. Seeking a range of voices, from Soprano (C4–E5) through Baritone (B3–E4).

Because this is a live radio play, ensemble performers will have opportunities to play multiple characters and help create the world of the broadcast.

Rehearsal Schedule

Meet & Greet / First Read: Thursday, September 17, 7:00 p.m.

Regular rehearsals begin September 21:

  • Mondays: Music/Singing — evenings, September 21–November 16
  • Thursdays: Staging — 6:00–9:00 p.m., beginning September 24
  • Sundays: Staging — 12:00–4:00 p.m., beginning September 27
  • Wednesday, November 18: Run — 7:00–9:00 p.m.

Actors will not necessarily be called to every rehearsal. Calls will be based on role, scene, and musical needs until we begin full runs.

Tech Week: Sunday, November 29–Wednesday, December 2, Cast should plan to be available for all required Tech Week rehearsals.

  • Friday, December 4 — 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 5 — 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 6 — 1:00 p.m.
