Join the Newsies as they take a stand in this high-energy, Tony Award-winning musical! Based on the true story of the 1899 New York City newsboys’ strike, Newsies is a thrilling tale of courage, friendship, and fighting for what’s right. With unforgettable songs, jaw-dropping choreography, and a powerful message of empowerment, this is a show that will inspire and leave you cheering for more!
Audition Requirements
Audition Dates (please attend 1 and arrive at the posted start time):

Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 6:00 PM
Please be prepared to:
– Sing 16-20 bars of a song of your choice. A song from the show is encouraged, not required. You must sing with our provided accompaniment or with a device you provide. No a cappella auditions will be allowed.
– Complete a dance audition, taught by the show choreographer (dress appropriately). If you have tap shoes, please bring them along for an optional tap audition.
– You may be asked to read provided selections from the script
– Fill out a conflict sheet at auditions (be as specific as possible about conflicts throughout the rehearsal period)

Rehearsals and Performances
Rehearsals will the week of June 2. Tech week will be from Sunday, July 6, through Thursday, July 10, 2025. No absences will be accepted during tech week or performances.

July 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, 2025 at 7:30 PM
July 13, 19, 20, 26, 27, 2025 at 2:00 PM
Please make sure you can fully commit to the rehearsal period and performance schedule before auditioning. You must be willing to make the show a priority.
**A tentative rehearsal schedule will be available at the time of your audition.**
Compensation
*Please note that productions are non-equity and no housing is provided or available.*
Compensation for this production will be 2 comp tickets per performer.
Performers Needed
Performers high school aged and up are welcome to audition. Experienced or first-time performers who enjoy singing, dancing, and acting are invited to audition.
FOR THE ROLE OF LES– Children aged 10 and up are welcome to audition.
Unless strictly and specifically mandated from the playwright, all roles are open and available to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, or body type.

Big-voiced star of the Bowery. Great comic delivery, entertainer, good friend to Jack.

Very strong dancing, singing, and stage combat required. All genders will be considered for newsies.
ENSEMBLE
Will play various roles including townspeople, Pulitzer’s staff, Bowery Beauty’s, Delancey Brothers, Wiesel, etc. Strong singers and some may be required to dance/move.
