Keystone Theatrics at The Playhouse At Allenberry Announces Auditions for Sister Act!

Show Description
Based on the smash hit film, Sister Act is a heavenly musical comedy that proves nothing can stand in the way of sisterhood! Disco diva Deloris dreams of fame and fortune, but is she prepared for the way she receives it? Songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco, including “Take Me to Heaven,” “Fabulous, Baby!,” and “Raise Your Voice,” this score is sure to raise your spirits. The grand finale to the 2024-25 season promises to be divine!

Audition Requirements

Audition Dates (please attend 1 and arrive at the posted start time):

Sunday, February 16 at 6:00 PM
Monday, February 17 at 6:00 PM

Callbacks (if needed):

Tuesday, February 18 at 6:00 PM

Please be prepared to:

– Sing 16 to 20 bars of a musical theatre song of your choice (Approx. 30-60 seconds max). You may sing a song from the show if you would like. Please be aware that you will be cut off after 16 to 20 bars.
You must sing with our provided accompaniment or with a device you provide.  No a cappella auditions will be allowed.
– You may be asked to sing scales by our accompanist.
– Complete a dance audition, taught by the show choreographer (dress appropriately)
– Read provided selections from the script
– Be prepared to fill out a conflict sheet at auditions (be as specific as possible about conflicts throughout the rehearsal period)

*A virtual audition option is available for those who may be out of the area at the time of auditions. Additional audition times may be scheduled ONLY if you are unable to attend the scheduled auditions. Rehearsals will begin the week of March 31. Tech week will be from Saturday, April 19 through Thursday, April 24, 2025. No absences will be accepted during tech week or performances.

Please make sure you can fully commit to the rehearsal period and performance schedule before auditioning.  You must be willing to make the show a priority.

Compensation
*Please note that productions are non-equity and no housing is provided or available.*

Compensation for this production will be 2 comp tickets per performer.

Performers Needed
Performers high school aged and up are welcome to audition. Experienced or first-time performers who enjoy singing, dancing, and acting are invited to audition. Unless strictly and specifically mandated from the playwright, all roles are open and available to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, or body type.

Roles Available:

Deloris Van Cartier
An aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring.

Mother Superior

The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings.

Sister Mary Robert

A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life.

Sister Mary Patrick

A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable.
 
 
Sister Mary Lazarus
A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris’s soul music.

Monsignor O’Hara

One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood.

Curtis

A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris’s boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence.

Eddie Souther

The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero.

TJ

Curtis’s nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss.

Joey

One of Curtis’s thugs. Believes himself to be quite the ladies’ man.

Pablo

One of Curtis’s thugs. A natural follower, constantly speaks in Spanish.

Sister Mary Martin-of-tours

A nun of the convent. Clearly in her own world but has her moments of surprising clarity.

A nun of the convent, the oldest of the group. Decrepit at a glance but secretly packs a punch.

One of Curtis’s thugs. Initially thought to be a mindless yes-man, he turns out to be an undercover police informant.
