From Tony winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, creators of such Broadway classics as Ragtime and Once On This Island, this dazzling show transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.”

On Casting
Based on dramatized source materials, writers McNally, Ahrens, and Flaherty weave a story that they (and we) believe is universal. With elements of historically accurate contexts, this piece is ultimately a work of historical fiction through which we intend to present a cast of actors representing any race, ethnicity, body type, or ability that has an interest in auditioning (whether those qualities align with their historical counterparts or not). The heart and soul of this piece is the balance of love and determination, longing, and belonging – with which we can all relate.

Roles Available

Anya, a lost soul, but one with great strength, pride, determination, and dignity. As the story progresses, she begins to discover her sense of self and the possibility that she may be the missing daughter of Tsar Nicholas II. Range: G3-F5, Belt to D5

Dowager Empress, the formidable and imperious grandmother of Anastasia. Anastasia is her favorite grandchild, and she loves her with all her heart. She never gives up the belief that her granddaughter might be alive but finally, after years of enduring impersonators, she becomes bitter and hardened. Range: F3-Bb4

Gleb, a son of the Russian revolution. As a career officer in the Bolshevik secret police, he is a passionate defender of the hardwon gains of the new order. His attraction to Anya puts him in violent conflict with himself. Which will he choose? Range: A2-Gb4

Vlad, Dmitry’s right hand man, and because of his romantic relationship with Lily, arranges a meeting between Anya and the Dowager Empress. Range: A2-F4
